Neither Melodic or the dual regression are by default constrained to gray matter voxels so that could happen. It can be a false positive, or it can mean that there are legitimate signal fluctuations in those regions associated with group differences. The interpretation is up to you.

I read the FAQ for dual regression. It said that finding significant regions outside the given RSN is okay as long as those regions are within the grey matter. I found significant regions in the white matter. My question is, what does it mean if you find significant regions outside the given RSN but within the white matter?
