Sarah,

Does this not still constitute being in the exam room – even if the exam papers have not been opened?

I’m not sure I am going to take much notice of this as I don’t think it changes anything we do. We use cards on the desks with photos, student no & name, and exam being taken (including relevant AAs) to identify our students. As such we don’t really use teaching staff to do identity checks. We use subject HoDs and subject teaching staff to go up & down the rows taking the attendance registers whilst I am making the announcements, but with large numbers of students, the staff taking the register will not necessarily have taught those students so couldn’t identify them anyway.  Once registers have been taken they tell me how many are missing and the HoD goes and rings them to get them in, keeping me informed.

I can honestly say we fulfil the ‘under no circumstances’ criteria so am happy that we are JCQ compliant.

Dear All,

Does anyone have any thoughts on the additional wording in the JCQ notice to centres: The people present in the examination room?

This year they’ve added ‘and who have not had overall responsibility for the candidates preparation for the examination(s)’. Do we assume that rules out Heads of Department from assisting with the identification of students etc.?
