Dear Cycling & Society listserv,

I write today to enlist your help in bringing the work we do to broader audiences. I am working on a literature review on sociocultural and historical research (post-1945) on bicycling for transportation within the U.S. in collaboration with Adonia Lugo, and Rebecca van Stokkum (grad student in Geography at UC Davis). The goal of the resulting white paper is to summarize and synthesize sociocultural and historical findings that demonstrates its importance for broader audience working in transportation studies, planning, policy, and advocacy. We are particularly interested in research related to equity, diversity, inclusion, race, gender, and class.

One of the challenges of conducting this lit review is that this research is done is such disparate fields and published in so many different journals and by different presses. Thus, I turn to all of you to help us by soliciting suggestions of what should be included. We want to be as comprehensive as possible, so please send us any/all suggestions you have. While we are focused primarily on peer-reviewed research, I know that some great community-responsive research has been done and published in more accessible sources, and welcome these references as well.

For purposes of manageability, we are limiting ourselves to the United States after 1945. Our hope is that with a well-received response to this lit review, we can find partners and funding to complete similar reviews in other contexts for comparative analysis.

Please send suggestions to both [log in to unmask] and [log in to unmask] by November 15th. Our goal is to share results from our analysis by fall 2018.

Thank you in advance for sharing your intellectual prowess!

Best,

Sarah
