The main goals of this post are to create and deliver an engagement strategy for the Archives Service in order to develop a larger and more diverse audience to Peterborough's Archives. This will also include developing and delivering a schools programme.
The service at Peterborough is probably the newest local authority archive service in the country, has Archives Service Accreditation and a reputation for exciting and innovative projects, which have seen us featured on Radio 4, 5Live, BBC News and Sky News. Although the service may only be 10 years old, the collections date back to 1245 and contain the usual richness and variety you would expect in a local archive. The service is managed by Vivacity Culture and Leisure, a cultural trust delivering leisure and culture on behalf of Peterborough City Council and the successful candidate would be well supported with training and staff benefits.
A postgraduate qualification in archives management or similar is desirable but not necessary. This could be a great opportunity for someone who may be pre-course or currently doing the course as you would be able to gain traditional archival skills as public service duties will be required, but within an exciting outreach post. An understanding of the heritage sector is important, but mostly we are looking for excellent communication skills, initiative and enthusiasm.
Kind regards,
