Hi all.
I want to congratulate everyone involved in the great conference which took place in Dublin on Friday 1st September. Well done to Linda Connolly and her team for a highly successful event. I enjoyed it immensely. It shows the research being done on women's roles in irish revolutionary activity and the work still to be done. I look forward to the forthcoming book.
Best wishes.
Hi all
I hope you’re keeping well and had a good summer.
I’m emailing to let you know that my new book Mixed Race Cinemas: Multiracial Dynamics in America and France is out now!
Centralising film analyses from the 1930s-‘60s and ‘90s to present, the book employs critical race theory and gender studies to analyse representations of mixed-race characters and interracial families. Mixed Race Cinemas is of use to those interested in both mainstream and independent American and French cinema, racial history and politics, and genre – specifically melodrama given the centrality of the ‘tragic mulatta’ stereotype in mixed-race narratives.
Please share!
Here are some quotes from early reviews:
“An important contribution to mixed race studies, Mixed Race Cinemas should be required reading for all students of race and gender, as well as those who appreciate film.” – Naomi Zack, Professor of Philosophy, University of Oregon, USA
“Cogent and sharply illuminating.” – Mary Beltrán, Associate Professor, The University of Texas at Austin, USA and co-editor, Mixed Race Hollywood
“A bold new voice in cinematic and mixed-race studies. In offering sometimes startling insights, she deepens our understandings of the different racial systems that have evolved in each of these countries. This is a terrific book.” – Paul Spickard, Professor of History and Black Studies, University of California, Santa Barbara, USA
With best wishes
Zélie
