With the first International Digital Preservation Day (IDPD17) on 30th November just over two months away, the Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) is inviting all data creators, curators and consumers from around the world to contribute and prepare to share stories of their own 'digital preservation day.'

International Digital Preservation Day is open to anyone interested in safeguarding digital materials and is intended to celebrate the opportunities created by digital preservation, by providing a window into the daily activities which ensure digital content remains robust and sustainable. In order to create as full a picture as possible, the sharing of a wide range of experiences, activities, projects, collections and challenges is encouraged - from members and non-members alike.

Some suggestions for contributions are as follows, although alternative proposals are welcomed:
* Nominate Digitally Endangered Species to the 'Bit List': In the run-up to IDPD17 the DPC is inviting nominations to a new a global list of the most 'at risk' Digitally Endangered Species. Examples might include content which has no obvious long-term home (such as the digital archives of community groups), different digital formats (for example: websites running Flash as the plugin becomes obsolete), or content where the value is recognized but the efforts to preserve have been incomplete (such as scientific e-journals). Nominations might combine all of these themes, such as personal social media content as there is still so little in place to capture the volume, complexity and context of this information. Entries close on 30th September 2017: http://dpconline.org/our-work/digitally-endangered-species

* Share a typical 'digital preservation day' on Social Media: Take photos, make videos, share updates about your own 'digital preservation day' using the social media platform of your choice. Or can you persuade your organization to let you take over the corporate social media account for the day to talk about digital preservation? In the run up to the publication of the Bit List, share your thoughts on the most at-risk digital materials. Just remember to use the hashtags #IDPD17<https://twitter.com/hashtag/idpd17> and #BitList<https://twitter.com/hashtag/bitlist>

* Blog about Digital Preservation: Share your digital preservation story with us on International Digital Preservation Day. If you are a member, you can post directly to the DPC blog on the day (please register first<http://dpconline.org/register> and login for step-by-step details of how to post<http://dpconline.org/blog/how-to-blog>). If you have your own blog, you can post your piece there and send us a link to it and we'll add it to the IDPD17 page. Or send your post in advance to [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> by Friday 10th November, and we'll add it to the DPC's IDPD17 blog roll for you. Guidelines for non-member bloggers available here<http://handbook.dpconline.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1866:blogging-guidelines&catid=9:uncategorised>.

* Hold and publicize a live event: If you or your workplace are planning an event in celebration of IDPD17, or if you are attending or organizing a relevant event which coincides with IDPD17, submit details to [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> by Friday 10th November and we'll add the details to our 'What's On' section of the IDPD17 page of the website, including URLs for your event. Download the IDPD17 Logo<http://handbook.dpconline.org/index.php?option=com_docman&view=document&alias=1709-idpd17-logo&category_slug=2017-events&Itemid=692>, and add it to related emails and communications for your event and publicize it using the #IDPD17<https://twitter.com/hashtag/idpd17> hashtag for greater visibility.

Organized by the DPC and supported by digital preservation networks around the world, IDPD17 is just one of the ways the Coalition helps raise awareness of the strategic, cultural and technological issues which make up the digital preservation challenge. The DPC also supports members through other advocacy activities, workforce development, capacity-building and partnership; helping members to deliver resilient long-term access to digital content and services, and derive enduring value from their digital collections.

For a detailed program and more information about International Digital Preservation Day visit the event page on the DPC website<http://dpconline.org/events/international-digital-preservation-day>, follow the hashtags #BitList<https://twitter.com/hashtag/bitlist> and #IDPD17<https://twitter.com/hashtag/idpd17> on Twitter for updates or contact [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> for more details.
