Dear all, please take some time to read a psychophysics study advert of hearing research led by a colleague of mine Dr Shabnam Kadir at Imperial College which I hope will interest you. Please contact Shabnam directly for more details of the study. *------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------* *Would you like to take part in an exciting experiment in hearing research?* ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We are currently seeking volunteers for a study to investigate how neurostimulation can help with hearing in noisy environments. We need volunteers who are: *Native English speakers Aged between 18 - 40 Normal hearing Right-handed Have no history of neurological disorders, such as epilepsy Have no history of migraines Not dyslexic or have any learning disabilities No current or recent mental health disorders * As a volunteer you will need to come to our hearing testing facility twice, for around 60 to 90 minutes each time. You will be asked to listen to speech in noisy backgrounds and repeat what you have heard, while we will apply weak alternating currents to your scalp. Location: Imperial College London, South Kensington Campus. *You will be compensated for your participation with £10 per session (£20 for the two visits).* Results of these experiments, which is funded by the Royal Legion Centre for Blast Injury Studies, will help in the development of devices to aid sufferers of Auditory Processing Disorder (APD). Sufferers of APD have difficulties distinguishing between competing sounds, despite being able to perform normally on standard hearing tests. APD can result from head injuries due to blast exposure.
