Hi Oonagh,
This is a very interesting research. I was wondering if you would be interested also in museums, or museum departments/teams that engage in enterprising activities. The digital department at Indianapolis Museum of Art, for example, offers paid consulting services to other museums. Children’s Museum of Pittsburg has experimented with real estate business (https://www.nytimes.com/2015/03/19/arts/artsspecial/childrens-museum-of-pittsburgh-leads-movement-to-acquire-tenants.html). The examples are numerous.
Overall, what I think is interesting to note (and my research has revealed) is that many museums started adopting new business models, and in some cases, using business principles and marketplace strategies
to achieve their missions. Weather the goal is to look at startup hubs, incubators and accelerators in museums (which is very exciting research) or discover the ways in which museums are behaving like businesses, it seems that open innovation and social enterprise
are great frameworks to help us conceptualize the enterprise movement in museums.
Best,
Haitham

Hi All
I am doing some research around museums and in house start up hubs, incubators and accelerators. I am planning to look at: New Museum, Te Papa and ACMI.
Are there any other museums doing interesting things in this area that I should look at?
This could be anything from hiring out desk space to creative entrepreneurs to a fully funded accelerator programme, I am interested in examples from both the UK and internationally. If this is something your museum has considered and is planning, that would also be really useful to hear about.
Do let me know either on list - or off list [log in to unmask]
Cheers,
Oonagh
