I am sure many will have already seen the British Library press release: “The British Library is to lead an 18-month scoping project to establish the demand for and possible shape of a ‘single digital presence’ for UK public libraries.”  There is a link to the PR and a summary of the background to this initiative as well as information on existing national initiatives on the Local Government Library Technology (LGLibTech) “National (digital) infrastructure and national catalogue” page: https://lglibtech.wikispaces.com/National+Catalogue

It will be interesting if links are made with the current project going on in UK Higher Education.... see email below

Subject: National Catalogues for Public and Higher Ed libraries

Some will have noticed the recent press release announcing  a “New UK-wide service will transform library collaboration: The National Bibliographic Knowledgebase”, This is a service currently for Higher Education:  “The new service will enable a shift in the way that libraries manage their print and digital collections and in the ways that people access those resources.” “This exciting collaborative partnership is an important part of building a national digital library for the UK,” explains Neil Grindley, head of resource discovery at Jisc. (See http://www.oclc.org/en/news/releases/2017/201702sheffield.html?platform )

OCLC will provide the technology ---indeed as they do at present for the UK public libraries national catalogue: “Bookmark your library”

http://www.bookmarkyourlibrary.org.uk/index.php?page=find-a-book

Could there be some useful collaboration? Is there any cross sector discussion going on around this? SCL and Jisc have cooperated in the past, for example on single  sign-on for example (SCL Digital offer http://goscl.com/universal-offers/digital-offer/ )
