italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies Dear all, We are inviting contributions for a new edited volume with the provisional title: *A Century of Italian War Narratives: Outsiders and Anti-heroes*From the celebration of warfare dynamism by the Futurists, to diaries or memoirs by soldiers and partisans, or unforgettable feature films, stories of war encourage us to question the reasons humanity constantly undermines and builds obstacles between itself and that state of quiescence called peace. In this complex canvas of stories, the role of “outsiders,” such as unwilling soldiers, women partisans, deserters, anti-heroes, pacifists, to name but a few, have contributed to reconfigure our interpretations of war in historical and cultural terms. This edited volume seeks contributions that examine the depiction of war in its less explored, less ideological, and often overlooked aspects, starting from examples taken from literary, figurative, or filmic experiences. The main lines of investigation from World War I and II, to the present, include, but are not limited to: · Fascism and war · Women at war/women against war · Heroes and antiheroes · Pacifist authors · Resistance narratives · Stories of desertion · War and the environment · War and science-fiction · Comic war stories · Unsung heroes _________________________ Please send your *500-word abstract* and a *provisional bibliography*, together with a *one-page maximum curriculum vitae* to Pina Palma ( [log in to unmask]) and Luigi Gussago ([log in to unmask]). Contributions are accepted in English and Italian. Deadline for submission: *1 October 2017.* The editors: Pina Palma (Southern Connecticut University) Luigi Gussago (Monash University, Melbourne) ********************************************************************** To join the list, send the message: subscribe italian-studies YOUR NAME to: [log in to unmask] To send a message to the list, address it to: [log in to unmask] To leave the list, send the message: unsubscribe italian-studies to: [log in to unmask] In order to report problems or to contact the list's owners, write to: [log in to unmask] For further information, visit our web site: http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/italian-studies
