St Mary's University, Twickenham<http://www.stmarys.ac.uk/> has a vacancy for one external examiner for the following programmes in the School of Management and Social Sciences:



*         LLB Law/LLB Legal Studies

*         BA Business Law

*         LLB Law with Criminology/LLB Legal Studies with Criminology (Law modules only)



External examining responsibilities for these programmes are shared between two external examiners.



The LLB Law/LLB Legal Studies programmes<https://www.stmarys.ac.uk/undergraduate/law> have been successfully running since 2012. The LLB Law programme is a qualifying law degree accredited by the Bar Standards Board and Solicitors Regulation Authority. The programmes offer modules in a broad range of areas, including: Public Law, Human Rights Law, Criminal Law, Contract Law, EU Law, Land Law, Tort Law, Family Law, Company Law, Commercial Law, Employment Law, Banking Law, Insurance Law and Sharia Law, among others.



The LLB Law with Criminology and LLB Legal Studies with Criminology programmes<https://www.stmarys.ac.uk/undergraduate/law-with-criminology> were validated during 2015-16 and commenced its first year of operation in September 2016. The LLB Law with Criminology programme is a qualifying law degree accredited by the Bar Standards Board and Solicitors Regulation Authority. Law modules are offered in the following areas: Criminal Law, Human Rights Law, Contract Law, EU Law, Land Law, Tort Law, Equity and Trusts and International Criminal Law.



The BA Business Law programme<https://www.stmarys.ac.uk/undergraduate/business-law> has been successfully running since 2006. It is available as a combined honours degree only. It offers modules in the following areas: Contract Law, Company Law and Corporate Governance, Consumer and Commercial Law, EU Law, Tort Law and Sports of the Law.



The standard term of appointment for external examiners is four years. The term would commence in September 2017 and would run until the end of the 2020-21 academic year.



In order to be eligible for the role candidates must:



*         be an academic currently employed in a UK higher education institution;

*         have subject area expertise in the area of law such as: Tort, Contract, Criminal law, Criminal Justice, Employment Law and/r Equity and Trusts;

*         have appropriate experience of undergraduate programme teaching, learning and assessment.

Please note that if any of the following criteria apply, then the candidate is not eligible for the external examiner role:

1.     he/she teaches on the programme of study to which he/she is being considered for appointment;

2.     he/she holds a teaching or other appointment of St Mary's University or its collaborative partners, or has held such an appointment within four years prior to the date of commencement of the proposed appointment as External Examiner;

3.     he/she is a close relative of a member of the nominating School or programme team or of a candidate, or has an association with the nominating School which could compromise his/her role and independence as External Examiner;

4.     he/she has previously served as External Examiner at St Mary's University at any time within the previous four years or has an association with the University and/ or the nominating School or the University's collaborative partners;

5.     he/she already holds two concurrent appointments as External Examiner at first degree and/or higher degree level(s);

6.     he/she is a current student of St Mary's University or its collaborative partners;

7.     he/she holds a teaching or other appointment from non-UK institutions;

8.     he/she has retired from full-time work in higher education;

9.     he/she is employed at an institution where more than one current St Mary's External Examiner is already in post, and/or is employed at the same department at the same institution as any current St Mary's External Examiner already in post.
