Dear all

I have been asked by Catherine Souch at the RGS-IBG to draw your attention to the following developments:

1.       Director of the RGS-IBG – The Society seeks to appoint a Director to succeed Dr Rita Gardner CBE, who will be stepping down in April 2018. As its Chief Executive, the Director will provide strategic and operational leadership to the Society, working in collaboration with the President and Trustees to ensure that RGS-IBG fulfils its mission and its commitment to its members and supporters, as well as overseeing the efficient management of its assets and ensuring financial sustainability. Full details available from: http://www.rgs.org/AboutUs/People+and+staff/Search+for+a+new+Director, along with guidance on how to apply and how to suggest names.

2.       The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) is inviting applications for two members of the Defra Science Advisory Council (SAC), an advisory Non-Departmental Public Body (NDPB).  They are keen to attract applicants with significant expertise in the natural sciences lying within the broad areas of interest to Defra; this might include knowledge of data science and geospatial analysis.  Members will work alongside the SAC Chair and fellow SAC members in advising and challenging Ian Boyd, the Defra Chief Scientific Adviser by providing high-level, strategic advice and challenge.  A link to the advert is here.https://publicappointments.cabinetoffice.gov.uk/appointment/science-advisory-council-member-in-natural-sciences-and-allied-disciplines/.
