Madrid must be rather miffed given that they poured a little cold water on the Scottish independence referendum, by insisting they would not support an independent Scotland's bid to remain in/join/rejoin the EU....of course a lot has changed since then.

Gordon Brown's last minute intervention is sometimes cited as a reason why the Scottish narrowly voted against indepoendence.  Where's Madrid's Giordano Bruno (OK, yep, this may be Italian not Spanish, anybody, I'm not a Meditarranean language expert?) when they need him?
