one of our groups has had the bad fortune of finding a new and exciting bug with the cogent pc while scanning a patient population (fun!). 

To whit: numbers begin to pop up as though either the keyboard or button box keys are being pressed (within and outside of matlab). However, the button box LEDs do not light up at the same time, suggesting that it is something with either the Cogent PC, USB connections, or the signalling from the button box relay. 

Bottom line: if you encounter this problem and Joerg, Peter, Oliver, or I are around, please get us right away so we can try to track down.  If it's out of hours, email right away with a description of the issue.  In the latter case, to try to debug, restart the cogent PC after [carefully!] unplugging and replugging the USB connections to the PC and button box. 

In the meantime, we will try to figure out what is going on. If it's the button box (now 11+ years) Peter and Joerg have created a new button box system which should not require rewriting any programs. 

Please let me know, and hope that this never happens again (as unlikely as this may be.. )
