Medical Statistician / Senior Medical Statistician

Full / Part time – minimum 50% of full time basis - these posts are available on an open ended basis with fixed funding which is currently confirmed for 3 years in the first instance.

These posts are part of an exciting new recruitment drive to support expansion of clinical trials across the Clinical Trials Research Unit (CTRU) at the University of Leeds (University of the Year 2017 by The Times and The Sunday Times).  An international leader in clinical trials and one of the largest CTUs in the country, we specialise in complex phase III trials, efficient phase I/II trials, biomarker driven designs, seamless development and evaluation of complex interventions - http://medhealth.leeds.ac.uk/LICTR.  Our aim is to support the challenge of changing clinical practice for the better.

Working with internationally established researchers, the CTRU influences national research strategies for a number of disease areas. You will work on internationally renowned trials designed to answer questions of real importance to clinicians and patients, ultimately improving disease outcomes and patient care.   We are keen to recruit statisticians with an interest in cancer (early through to late phase trials) and also invite applications from those with an interest in surgery and other complex interventions, musculoskeletal disease, cardiovascular disease or skin research.

Arising from further expansion, there are a number of exciting opportunities for talented and dynamic individuals, keen to join a large, well-established group of statisticians supporting the Unit’s work on clinical trials.  You will be involved in a wide range of statistical activities, including preparing grant applications, design, conduct, analysis and publication of clinical trials and presenting at national and international conferences.  You will have opportunities to research, apply and develop statistical methodology, together with general consulting and training of health professionals.

If you want to make a difference and be part of a successful, highly talented, multi-disciplinary team, then this is the career for you.  All statistical roles offer excellent opportunities for career development within a supportive and stimulating environment, with a chance to further broaden your expertise through methodological research.  Opportunities also exist for PhD registration.  With a postgraduate qualification with a major statistical component, you will have excellent interpersonal, communication and time management skills and be able to work well within a multidisciplinary team.

The University of Leeds is committed to providing equal opportunities for all and offers a range of family friendly policies (http://hr.leeds.ac.uk/homepage/4/policies). The University is a charter member of Athena SWAN. The School of Medicine holds a Silver Award, which recognises our significant record of activity and achievement in promoting gender equality and in addressing challenges across different disciplines.
