Film Screening & Discussion: ‘Lampedusa im Winter’ (2015)

 

Jakob Brossmann will discuss his award-winning documentary ‘Lampedusa in Winter’ (2015) which focuses on Italy’s southernmost island community and its desperate struggle for basic infrastructure, as it seeks to support those who arrive there following perilous crossings from North Africa.

 

The screening and discussion will take place from 15.40-18.00.

In Conversation: Thomas Larcher & Michael Haas

 

The acclaimed Austrian composer Thomas Larcher will join Grammy-winning producer Michael Haas to discuss extracts from his symphonies ‘Kenotaph’ (2015-2016), dedicated to those who drowned crossing the Mediterranean, and ‘Alle Tage’ (2010-2015), which engages with lyric texts by the poet Ingeborg Bachmann. Michael Haas is currently Senior Researcher at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and the author of ‘Forbidden Music’ (Yale UP, 2013), a study that examines the forced emigration of Jewish composers and performers before and during the Second World War from Germany and Austria.

 

The conversation will take place from 19.45-21.30.
