Dear Colleagues,
As Elections Officer, I am writing to inform you that I have received three nominations for the three vacancies on the SRN Executive Council.
Those nominated are Christina Milligan, Claus Tieber and Anna Zaluczkowska.
I declare all three candidates elected unopposed.
Please see their statements below.

Christina Milligan
Auckland University of Technology
I am a filmmaker who lectures in screenwriting and screen production at Auckland University of Technology. My practice as a producer of documentaries and drama is focused on telling indigenous stories, reflecting my Mâori heritage, and my films have screened at many international festivals as well as being released commercially through cinema, television and online. My most recent production, the feature documentary The Price of Peace, has been awarded at indigenous film festivals in Canada, Tahiti and New Caledonia, as well as screening in China, France and the US. It screened worldwide in 2016 as a Witness documentary on Al-Jazeera. https://journeyman.tv/film/6707/the-price-of-peace
My current research considers how indigenous creative voices operate within the business and creative environment of New Zealand and internationally, focusing particularly on the roles of the screenwriter and the screen producer. Most recent publication: “Expanding the dialogue: The producer as part of the creative triangle” Journal of Screenwriting DOI: 10.1386/josc.8.1.23_1
What I feel I can offer the SRN Executive Council is an indigenous voice from a small country, and the voice of a very experienced practitioner. I have board experience as a past board member of the New Zealand Film Commission, a founding board member of Women in Film and Television NZ, and chair of the board of the Big Screen Symposium, NZ’s annual gathering of film creatives.
I am currently a member of the postgraduate committee of the School of Communication Studies at AUT, and completing my PhD under the working title: Crossing borders: indigeneity and cultural belonging in the practice of a Mâori screen producer in a Pâkehâ world.

Claus Tieber
Claus Tieber, principle investigator of a research project at the university of Salzburg, lecturer at the University of Vienna. Two research projects on the history of screenwriting and storytelling in American silent cinema.
I have been a member of the Executive Council since 2013, serving as chairman since 2014. During this time we achieved many, important tasks: our annual international conferences are growing, attracting more and more people around the world.
We initiated working groups for the special interests of our members, we re-arranged our website, made it more usable for our members. We established a Facebook page to improve the communication with our members.
We established monthly meetings of the Executive per Skype, and we managed to organize a workshop for the Executive Council to prepare a multiple year action plan. We are currently in communication with the organizers of our next three conferences 2019-2021.
Working for the network for some time now, I feel that there are many more things to be done within the next two years. I would like to continue the successful work within the EC, in the service of its members and the establishment of screenwriting research as an important and innovative field within academia.
Thus I am asking you to vote for me for next EC of the Screenwriting Research Network.
Thank you
Claus Tieber

Anna Zaluczkowska
Head of Screenwriting at Northern Film School – Leeds Beckett University
I am head of screenwriting at the Northern Film School in Leeds and a practising writer.
As such I bring knowledge of industry practice, academic rigour and specialist teaching expertise to the position.
You may remember me from last year (2016) when I co-organised the SRN conference in Leeds with Ian Macdonald and Rob Shail.
I am particularly interested in the development of writing for new technological forms and investigating the role of the audience and would bring substantial experience to bear in this area.
I have a strong interest in how screenwriting is taught in higher education. I have run a number of award winning educational projects to develop new practices in this area – projects that featured new technological developments
and worked closely with industry.
I have twenty years of experience as a producer, fundraiser and conference organizer. I have management experience in training agencies, production companies and academic organisations so would be able to help support any
activities the committee would want to facilitate.
I’m organized, highly motivated with plenty of enthusiasm and would love to be able to contribute to the running of the network.
