Hi Helen and all
This sounds very interesting and would be very relevant to the challenges I face negotiating some form of one-to-one work into a job
primarily located in resource development and face-to-face teaching and lecturing. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to attend, but would be very interested in any resources you could point me to.
Best wishes
Andrew

Subject: Training Event: One to One work in Learning Development
One to one work with students is a core part of LD work and yet as there's no formal training and few opportunities to observe other LDers, we often have to pick it up the
hard way.
This bespoke training event has been developed for new and early career Learning Developers, to help you gain an understanding of Learning Development work in a one to one
context, pick up some practical approaches and strategies and share good practice. The training will cover:
• The aims of one to one work in Learning Development
• Developing expertise (and how to teach what you don’t know!)
• Structuring a one to one
• Using teaching, coaching, mentoring and active listening skills
• Working with text
• Dealing with difficult issues and boundaries
The event will run twice:
University of Bradford: 8th Sept
10:00-16:00
Book a place
University of Bedfordshire, Luton:
14th Sept 10:00-16:00
Book a place
*Places for each event are limited to a maximum of 30
The training is developed and delivered by Dr Helen Webster, head of the Writing Development Centre at Newcastle University, for ALDinHE’s Professional Development Working
Group. Helen has been a learning developer for over 10 years.
