Leicester College urgently require an External Examiner for the Foundation Degree in Acting, Foundation Degree in Dance and the BA (Hons) Top-Up Degree in Performing Arts (Professional Studies) with De Montfort University. The nominee will be appointed as soon as possible for an initial period of four years, on a part-time basis.

The Foundation Degree in Acting has been designed to mirror some of the experience that takes place at a conservatoire, with its concentration on professional training and focus on the core skills of acting, voice and movement. Similarly, the Foundation Degree in Dance has been developed to be an intensive, dynamic course designed to prepare the dancer for the professional industry. Emphasis is placed upon studio practice whilst developing the academic knowledge required for a lasting career.

On completion of either of these programmes, students may progress onto the BA (Hons) Performing Arts (Professional Studies) top-up. This programme centres on developing the professional skills and knowledge needed to enter the industry as a freelance performance practitioner. Strong emphasis is also placed on the building of employability skills in preparation for the diverse nature of the performing arts industry.

Main Responsibilities of an External Examiner: 
- Scrutinise and advise on curriculum development and design
- Review sample work and decide whether the assessment of students is fair
- Confirm that Leicester College and DMU’s awards are comparable in standards to awards granted by other institutions and comply with national standards
- Attend relevant Programme Assessment Boards 
- Submit an annual report detailing providing pertinent information and assessing the observed practices 

The appointment period for the External Examiner will be four years, on a part time basis. The External Examiner will receive £360 on completion of an annual report, and claim form, at the end of year. In addition, External Examiners will receive a visit fee of £90 per visit for a maximum of three visits, and will be reimbursed for any reasonable expenses. 

Criteria for appointment:
- In this instance, previous external examining experience is required due to the profile of the current examiners in post. 
- Please note that the successful candidate will need to be based in the UK

N.B. External Examiners should not normally be appointed if they have had close and persistent contact with a current member of staff of the collaborative partner at any time during the previous five years.
