Marco,
you're perfectly right, that'd be really something, that'd mean a lot.
But, one clarification, Giulio wanted to apply for a Scholar Sctivist grant and was discussing the possible bid with the leader of the union he was studying / cooperating with, the guy who apparently gave him away (and this is the reason some media in Italy gave the news Giulio was trying to "bribe" the union leader...)
Andy, I don't know if this is somethng you guys at Antipode may consider; but I'm sure there'd be support from many here in the list (myself included) in case you'd do...

Dear Andrew,

Have you considered the possibility of renaming the Award as 'Giulio Regeni Scholar-Activist Project Awards'?

If I am right, Giulio went to Egypt with one of the Antipode Foundation awards. To add his name would be a good way to keep alive his memory and fight the insane logic of power which still today prevents the truth to be disclosed - a very radical endeavour.

Thanks for taking this suggestion into consideration

Oggetto: Antipode Foundation funding opportunities for 2017/18

Hi all,

We're pleased to announce the sixth year of the Antipode Foundation's Scholar-Activist Project and International Workshop Awards...

Scholar-Activist Project Awards are single-year grants of up to GB£10,000.00 intended to support collaborations between academics and students and non-academic activists (from non-governmental organisations, think tanks, social movements, or community/grassroots organisations, among other places), including programmes of action-orientated and participatory research and publicly-focused forms of geographical investigation. They offer opportunities for scholars to relate to civil society and make mutually beneficial connections.

International Workshop Awards are single-year grants of up to GB£10,000.00 available to groups of radical/critical geographers staging events (including conferences, workshops, seminar series and summer schools) that involve the exchange of ideas across disciplinary and sectoral boundaries and intra/international borders, and lead to the building of productive, durable relationships. They make capacity-building possible by enabling the development of a community of researchers.

Activists (of all kinds) and students as well as academics are welcome to apply, and applications are welcome from those based outside geography departments; historians, political scientists and many others can apply if their work contributes to radical/critical geographic conversations. Also, the Foundation welcomes proposals from historically under-represented groups, regions, countries and institutions.

For more information, including application forms and details of recent awardees, see http://antipodefoundation.org/scholar-activist-project-awards/ and http://antipodefoundation.org/international-workshop-awards/ or just get in touch - [log in to unmask] - with any questions.

Thanks, and best wishes

Andy
