Hi Nora,
Are you centrifuging as per Sarstedt recommendations for the longer time or higher spin speed for the plasma gel tube?
Extract from Sarstedt protocols "In order to achieve an evenly formed separating layer, centrifugation must be carried out in a centrifuge with a swing-out rotor. The S-Monovette(r) Serum-Gel is to be centrifuged at 2500 xg for 10 minutes and the S-Monovette(r) Plasma-Gel at 2500 xg for 15 minutes or 3000 xg for 10 minutes, both at room temperature.

We have had fliers in plasma gel on Abbott Architect for Na, Alb, Alk and GGT as well as fT4 and we haven't been able to get to the true cause as yet. Our issue is not quite the same as you describe in that the repeat in the same plasma sample is different, but the coincidence is that it is broadly the same tests.

Best, Maria

Subject: Suspect pattern of results

Hi guys,

Just querying has anybody come across this unusual pattern of blood results, see below. I suspect its preanalytical - Albumin, Sodium, Potassium, and ALK are affected.
We received a Lithium Heparin and Serum sample on the same patient in the same delivery. There is some interference with the Lithium Heparin sample that is not affecting the serum sample.
Samples were assayed x2 on two different days and we retrieved the same result!!

Any ideas!!
