More, please, Dermot… is that because QRISK2 requires HDL-cholesterol? (In addition to anything else that’s cascaded off or clinically indicated?)

Thanks

Jonathan

Unfortunately a health check with just total cholesterol and a glucose is not much use and cannot meet the requirements for a CVD risk assessment as recommended in NICE CG181. Once other tests are added the marginal costs will increase rapidly with POCT and cost will be considerably greater.

Dear All

I would love your comments on this recent publication:

Point of care testing in primary care
BMJ Open has published research concerning point of care testing (POCT) in primary care.  Does use of point-of-care testing improving cost-effectiveness of the NHS Health Check programme in the primary care setting?  A cost-minimisation analysis found that the total expected cost of using POCT to deliver an NHS Health Check in primary care is lower than the laboratory-led pathway.  It also minimises DNA rates and only requires one visit from the patient.
