Dear Colleagues,

our kind request to forward this advertisement for a vacancy
in experimental/theoretical astrochemistry to potential
candidates.

Kind regards,
Herma Cuppen, Harold Linnartz

=================================================================

4 yrs PhD / 3 yrs Postdoc position in laboratory astrophysics
and astrochemical modeling

Within the framework of the Dutch Astrochemistry Network (DAN),
(www.nwo.nl/astrochemistry) we currently have a vacancy for
a 4-yrs PhD position / 3-yrs postdoc position, starting as
soon as possible, but not later than 01.01.2018.

The Dutch Astrochemistry Network is funded by The Netherlands
Organisation for Scientific Research, NWO, with the aim to study
the origin and evolution of molecules in space. This interdisciplinary
programme combines astrochemical and astrophysical experiments,
quantum chemical calculations, laboratory spectroscopy of
astronomically relevant species and modeling and observations
of astronomical sources.

The vacancy is a combined experimental/theoretical position in which
atom addition reactions are used to form complex organic molecules under
dense interstellar cloud conditions. The laboratory work is performed
using SURFRESIDE2, an UHV setup equipped with different atomic and
molecular deposition beam lines, using RAIRS and TPD as analytical
tools. The laboratory results are linked to astrochemical models using
kinetic Monte Carlo simulation programs.

For this project we are looking for an enthusiastic PhD student
or postdoc with an experimental background, experience with UHV,
molecular spectroscopy and mass spectrometry and a strong interest
in astrochemical modeling. Good communication skills in English
are essential. The position is located at Leiden Observatory
in the Netherlands and supervised by Harold Linnartz
([log in to unmask]) and Herma Cuppen (Radboud University
Nijmegen, [log in to unmask]).

The full-time appointments for the PhD position will be on a
temporary base for a maximum period of four years and should lead to a
dissertation (PhD thesis). The postdoc contract is initially for one
year and can be extended with two more years.

The project is part of the Dutch Astrochemistry Network, a consortium of
astronomy and chemistry groups within the Netherlands. Applications are
open for everybody with expertise in experimental physics, physical
chemistry or astronomical instrumentation.

Applications are sent before 10.09.2017 to
[log in to unmask] and [log in to unmask]
and contain a short motivation letter, a scientific CV and
the names of two persons willing to provide a letter of
recommendation.
