The SPSS users group (ASSESS) is organising a day of two one-day courses using IBM SPSS Statistics together with five

user presentations and a users clinic comprise a one-day IBM SPSS Statistics users (ASSESS) conference. It will be held

on Friday 10th November 2017 at the University of York.



One one day course will introduce IBM SPSS Statistics to complete beginners to enable users to get started from scratch.

The other one-day course will show uses of k-means cluster analysis on geospatial data using demographics. A one day user talks

session of five user presentations on Exploratory Factor Analysis, Clustering of local authority data and survey analysis

using databases together with a user clinic will run in parallel through the day with courses for beginners to SPSS and

on Clustering including an application to derive a deprivation index.



The day of user presentations comprises a morning session presenting three case studies showing applications to in IBM

SPSS Statistics and an afternoon session featuring a recorded webinar followed by a data management session and a

question and answer session where an expert panel will answer questions raised by delegates regarding IBM SPSS

Statistics.  The recorded webinar will be a plenary talk on using IBM SPSS STATISTICS to analyse items from surveys using

item response theory.



Delegates may choose to attend a single morning users session or workshop and/or a single afternoon users session or

workshop.  Come along to learn more about current and upcoming uses of IBM SPSS Statistics including the performing of

statistical analyses in fields of applications. Learn when these models should be used, how to implement statistical

routines in IBM SPSS Statistics using real data to make policy decisions, problems associated with their use and how to

interpret and understand output to identify client behaviour. See software demonstrations, share experiences with other

users and plan for future meetings.  Coffee breaks are included. Lunch is also included if attending both a morning AND

afternoon event.
