Dawn,

Could you add Abingdon ATOM Festival of Science and Technology 14-18 March? I am chair of the Schools and Families Sub-Committee and we would be very interested in an exhibit.

Thanks.

Hi all,
I am sure that you are aware that next year, 2018, is the Year of Engineering. What a fantastic opportunity this is for our engineering sector to get together around a coordinated campaign to promote engineering. As you will probably also know, a couple of campaigns are already on the drawing board – the Dept. for Transport’s YOE18 campaign, and the Royal Academy of Engineering Talent project, ICE200, RAF100….all great ways to engage students and their parents and tell them about the great opportunities we have in engineering. On the latter point, I would like to propose that a way of reaching parents would be through a year-long roadshow taking an engineering careers ‘stand’ around the country, staffed by volunteers from our respective companies, using the educational and outreach resources that are excellent and plentiful in the sector, and reaching out to parents directly. As such, I am proposing to organise this activity and am looking at the possibility of getting a company to sponsor an event that is on their own doorstep by providing some funding to cover the stand and travel expenses of an organiser, and provide members of their own staff to act as volunteers at the event. If you would be interested in getting involved in this (as a sponsor as opposed to a volunteer at this point) then please do get in touch and let me know. The idea is to choose non-science as well as science shows where a good cross section of the public are likely to be attending.
Shows I have in mind so far are:

    York Literature Festival, March 2018
Hay Festival, end of May- early June
    Cheltenham Science Festival, June 2018
Royal International Air Tattoo, 14-16 July 2018
    Kendal Calling, 26-29 July 2018
Edinburgh International and Fringe Festival, August 2018
    British Science Festival, September 2018
    Abergavenny Food Festival, September 2018

Please let me know if you would like to either sponsor or volunteer to organise or staff the stand at any of these shows. Please also send other suggestions. I look forward to hearing from you. Contact me at [log in to unmask]
