Hi Clementine

I am involved with the York 50+ Festival and also with YorkScienceTrails.eventbrite.co.uk so I would like to help.

One thought is to google "membrane chemistry" and your locality, and see if it throw up some contacts. Another would be to see if anyone is still citing the work of your 93- year old.

Hello everyone,

I hope you don't mind me seeking some advice/help!

I wondered if anybody knew of any groups that do social outreach work with the elderly within the scientific community?

Failing that, if any mechanisms exist for getting free journal access for the elderly? I know some universities now provide access for life, but that doesn't do much good for those who were doing their research when programming meant punch cards!

My experience is that the scientific mind doesn't turn off at retirement, and for many isolated old people access to journal databases would provide much more freedom than a bus pass.

My interest is prompted by my grandfather who is, at 93, occupying himself with writing a paper reviewing his work in the field of membrane chemistry. He is desperate to talk to someone about it, and get some constructive feed back, but of course all his old collaborators are all dead, the journals he submitted to are uncrecognisable, and his family frustratingly lacking in understanding.

Any advice would be very welcome.

Thank you,
Clementine
