Hi Martin, <snip Martin> 'Is there a danger of the academic 'field' of design research becoming increasingly remote from the profession of 'designer', as the term is generally understood?' <endsnip> How do you see that the profession of designer is generally understood? On the numbers of practitioners, it is engineering designers who appear to be are the largest group and hence have the 'general' opinion. Do you mean that the profession of 'designer' should be 'generally taken' to mean only those practicing the various different forms of engineering design? I wouldn't claim that... a much more open definition would make more sense.. one that also included other kinds of designers.
