"Conventional business models of logistics activities in urban areas contribute to increased traffic, congestion, use of land (kerbside) space, noise, and air pollution due to the greenhouse gases emitted, particularly carbon, affecting public health and quality of life. To reduce the environmental consequences of such operations, this project will involve analysing large data sets to identify the factors contributing to increased energy requirements in the modus operandi of urban logistics providers, devise innovative, collaborative and transformative business models to optimise logistics planning and management in order that carbon emissions are reduced whilst maintaining similar levels of service."
