Hi all
May I point out two sessions at the upcoming Gondwana 16, IAGR and IGCP 628 meeting at Bangkok in November that may be of interest to people here:

Tectonics and the Earth System in the billion years before Gondwana
Co-convenors: Grant Cox, Alan S Collins and Peter Cawood
The billion years before Gondwana saw the supercontinent cycle pass from the breakup of Colombia/Nuna to the formation of Gondwana with Rodinia forming and breaking-up between. The origins of this supercycle are ultimately linked to the dissipation of heat from the planet but is manifested as changing tectonic geography, crustal growth and destruction, plate redistribution and changes to the hydrosphere and biosphere. These changes provided the basis for the goldilocks moment for macrofossil evolution and a Neoproterozoic Oxidation Event during the assembly of Gondwana. This session aims to integrate tectonic studies with geodynamic speculations/models to address their control on the evolving Earth system. This session is a contribution to IGCPs 628 and 648.

Orogenesis and Tectonic Geography during the Amalgamation of Gondwana – IGCP 628
Co-convenors: Alan S Collins and Renata Schmitt
The continent of Gondwana formed from large parts of Rodinia that amalgamated and grew from the Palaeoproterozoic and the amalgamation of many disparate continents
along with new crust that formed in the latter part of the Proterozoic. This session, which is linked with IGCP 628, the Gondwana Map, aims to present new research into the orogens that formed and the tectonic geography of the second half of the Proterozoic
that culminated in the formation of Gondwana.
The joint Bangkok Gondwana 16 and IAGR annual convention and IGCP 628 (The Gondwana Map) meeting is being held from Nov 12-17st 2017 – with field trips before, during and after the meeting.
