Thanks for clarifying this Nicola. I was a bit surprised by this because we've been using Survey Monkey for some years, for around 15-20 surveys a year, many of which are with the museums sector, libraries/archives or local authority education workers. We generally send out the survey by email or personalised message so that people can respond in an alternative way if they can't access the survey. If people have preferred to email or chat, nobody has ever said it is because their local authority blocks it.

Smart Survey is over twice the price of Survey Monkey for a business/premium account, so I don't think we'll be switching, unless it turns out that local authorities are starting to block Survey Monkey as a new phenomenon.

Hello all

Useful to know that some local authorities block access to Survey Monkey.  However, the Information Commissioner's Office (www.ico.org.uk) advises that Survey Monkey is compliant with the UK Data Protection Act because Survey Monkey has a European based headquarters in Ireland, so is required to comply with the Data Protection Directive from which the DPA derives.

Therefore the important message is that an alternative survey system like Smart Survey will be accessible to more people (if their access to Survey Monkey is blocked), but Survey Monkey does meet UK data protection requirements.

New data protection legislation comes into force in May 2018 – more info here: https://ico.org.uk/for-organisations/data-protection-reform/

Best wishes

Hi everyone,

Not a direct response to this survey but more generally about Survey Monkey links.

Many local authorities now block access to Survey Monkey complete and use something like Smart Survey (this is because survey monkey is an American company and doesn’t meet UK data protection laws) so these surveys are inaccessible for quite a few people.

Thanks,

Elle

Dear GEM,

I hope you are all well this Friday afternoon.  Laura Crossley and I have been asked to evaluate part of the ACE funded pilot Mentoring for All scheme.

Mentoring for All is a museum wide mentoring scheme aimed to help participants develop their personal qualities as well as career.  It was open to all of the museum sector workforce and was developed in response to the ACE Character Matters Report (2016).

We’re looking to get feedback from people who didn’t apply to the scheme; whether you considered it and never progressed, or hadn’t be aware of it.  And we’re asking people to review the application documents so that the scheme can develop.

If you got about 10/15 minutes spare it would be great to hear from some of you.   We’ve made a survey to gather responses which can be found here:

Cheers
