Our POCT results have a separate tab on the records. It was felt with glucose results in particular that if they formed part of the Biochemistry results the frequency of testing
could result in a bit of confusion. Plus it means we can easily audit the POCT results

Helen – do the results appear on the same page as the main lab results? Or on a separate page?
I think the question below is similar to one of my concerns:
There are a lot of POCT tests done in 24hour in a patient in ITU for example.
But perhaps only 1 set of laboratory samples sent.
If results are shown all on 1 page, then the results would display in a chronological order and the laboratory samples then become difficult to locate/harder to trend with 1 look…..
Then you can imagine users trying to “deselect” viewing POCT results in order to compare lab sample to lab sample in the display. This then risks POCT results being missed and vice versa..
Hope I am making myself clear.
I would be interested to know how others display lab and POCT results simultaneously or if they have chosen not to?
Thanks
Katy

We have blood gas, glucose, INR and DDimer all IT connected into EPR. We do not go through the LIS – they go via our DMS for POCT and via HL7 messenger into EPR. We have had the
systems connected for several years and we are now looking at connecting ketone, urinalysis, Hemochron systems, TEGs and ROTEMS
We see it is as a risk governance requirement and the Trust fully support us in this. We have the facility to do full end to end testing into the EPR using test patients and this
forms part of our verification and validation system.

Subject: Point of Care Results in the Electronic Patient Record
Hi All,
We are soon going to be in a position where results from our blood gas analysers and blood glucose meters could be transmitted to our HIS (Sunquest ICE version 5.4.1) via Conworx. We are a little concerned about the number of results that
could potentially be transmitted on a daily basis and what the patient record will look like when viewed by the clinicians.
For anyone who already has experience of this:
Have your clinicians found this useful?
Which results to you transmit?
Do you just transmit your results into your LIS and not the HIS?
Kind regards,
Kerry
