Dear All,

I've been asked to circulate the following advert for a part-time
teaching vacancy atFettes College in Edinburgh. They are looking to fill
the vacancy by the end of the teaching term (26 June). If you are
interested in the vacancy, please contact Antonia Bruce
([log in to unmask]) about this directly.

Best wishes,
Katya

Information about the vacancy:

We urgently require someone to teach two German _native speakers_, aged
17-18, the _second year_ of the _literature_ component of the
International Baccalaureate (IB) German Language A (Language and
Literature) course. It would involve 5x40 minutes’ contact teaching in
Fettes per fortnight plus 5x20 minutes’ preparation and marking time,
working out at 5 hours per fortnight, although this is flexible (we
could arrange for two hours per week, for example). The syllabus can be
found here
<http://www.britishschoolbahrain.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/IB-Language-and-Literature-A.pdf?3ed6a0>
for your information. (Paper 2, individual oral commentary and written
task). One student is studying the subject at higher level and the other
is studying at standard level. They are studying Der Vorleser, Schöne
neue Welt (in German translation), Der Besuch der alten Dame, Die
Verwandlung, Der Hof im Spiegel and Die Leiden des jungen Werther.
Fettes pays around £30 an hour so it would be around 2.5 x £30 per week.
The pupils have already covered all except one of the texts they will
need for the exam in May 2018. It would be a case of teaching Die Leiden
des jungen Werther (or another similar text of the teacher’s choice) to
the higher-level student in the autumn term and then focusing on exam
preparation: that is, writing essays on the above titles and also
commenting orally on passages from them, as well as guiding the higher
level student through preparing his written task (coursework). The two
pupils are very motivated and work hard. Lessons would have to be
conducted in German, preferably by a literature specialist.

If you think you can help us out, please put us in touch and we can
arrange for you to come in and meet the students and discuss the course
in more detail.
