Hi James

No data capture (e.g. Emails) as we wanted to make it as quick and easy as possible. It's literally one tap with minimal thought. The equivalent of dropping coins into a box (and watching it spin / fall).

Rob, I'm loving the idea of a thank you massage - it's an idea that could catch on ;)  Seriously though, that sounds like a neat set-up and it would be interesting to hear how it goes. I wonder if you could A/B test different curators/objects to see what raises the most ;). Are you also at least optionally capturing email addresses?

Hi all,

We launched a contactless kiosk last week at the National Museum of Scotland.

At the exit of one of our free exhibitions there's  a screen to attract people (featuring the exhibition curators) and once visitors tap to donate... a thank you massage appears and the screen changes to reveal one of the objects from the exhibition.

The payment terminal is from Payter and operates via 2/3G. The payments are processed via CreditCall.

Happy to answer any questions. Blog post coming soon and there's a picture here:

Hi Ben

The National Gallery have a contactless £5 card reader at the main desk so contact them as I didn't ask who supplied it. We've done contactless donations since July using a standard contactless and chip and pin reader. Ours requires us to manually add the amount whereas The National Gallery is auto set to a fiver which is pretty cool and seamless. We use worldpay.

Hi All,

Bumping this thread to see if anyone is aware of new developments in this area for contactless donations? Are there any off the shelf plug and play solutions for this yet? Upon googling I could only find links to the barclays trial.

Ideally am looking for a system that could easily integrate with existing systems (such as shopify).

Many Thanks,
Ben

Hi Jim,

We’re currently looking at the set-up for these boxes and if we can create a more user-friendly experience than a simple tap on a black box.

Costs seem reasonably lightweight at the moment between the purchase of the payment boxes and the ongoing licensing (or the fee per transaction which is the other model).

The pain points seem to be in setting up a Merchant Account with the bank provider (Elavon) in terms of time/process.

I know the Barbican recently set a contactless box up at the entrance to one of their galleries.

JustGiving are looking at introducing a contactless payment App for Charities which is a slightly different approach:

Hi All

I wondered if anyone here has been approached about contactless donation boxes like these:

Cancer Research UK to hold contactless collections on World Cancer Day
http://fundraising.co.uk/2016/02/03/216279/#.WD_zUS2LRpg

Breast Cancer Care Tap to Donate Trial at Wembly Stadium

Creditcall Enables Contactless Payments for Charitable Donations

It’s interesting tech and I’d love to know the costs involved.

Thanks

Jim
