Hi all, thanks for the replies on and off list.  I have plumped for a candidate term of "Yard Houses", as these areas are generally known as yards in Lancashire.  Roger T provided a useful link to a Liverpool PhD which used the term "Court House" but this term was already taken, as was "Yard House".  In any case the plural seems to fit better as these seem to occur as clusters around all sides of the yard, rather than singly.
