With apologies for cross-posting, this reminder is directed to WIGS members who are not currently subscribed to the WIGS JISCMail list (http://www.wigs.ac.uk/wigsforum.html).

The deadline for expressions of interest in WIGS committee vacancies has been extended to this Sunday 18 June. Please see below for details.

A number of committee terms of office are ending at the same time, as a result of which we are advertising the following WIGS committee vacancies: Irish Representative, PG Representative, and IT officer. This is an excellent opportunity to hold a position of responsibility in a national professional organisation of nearly thirty years’ standing. You will be supported by a dedicated and cooperative team of colleagues on the WIGS committee. All committee roles are voluntary. Travel expenses are paid to WIGS meetings, and reasonable accommodation costs may also be covered, depending on circumstances. Terms of office are normally three years.

Irish Representative
The presence of an Irish representative on the Women in German Studies Committee reflects the Association's awareness of the diversity of its membership and its continued commitment to representing colleagues in the Republic of Ireland. The WIGS Irish representative is primarily responsible for ensuring the flow of communication between WIGS and its Irish members and the Irish Germanists' association (GSAI). The Irish representative attends annual meetings (usually held in the location in which the annual conference is to take place) and takes a full part in committee activities including supporting conference organisation, adjudicating book and essay prizes and evaluating travel grant applications. Some financial support is available for travel to meetings. This position offers a wonderful opportunity to contribute to the scholarly community in German Studies, to support early career and postgraduate students and to enjoy the vibrant network fostered by Women in German Studies. If you would like to know more, please feel free to contact the current Irish rep Gillian Pye ([log in to unmask]
). Please also submit expressions of interest to Gillian Pye via email by 18 June 2017.

PG Representative
The open conference in Oxford in June will mark my third year as the WIGS Postgraduate Representative and will end my period of office in this position. This means that any postgraduate member of WIGS interested in standing for the role of PG Rep will be able to do so at the AGM this year. It has been a fantastic experience working with the committee during my time in office and I can only recommend postgraduate members to consider applying for this role.

The responsibilities of PG Representative include: maintaining the PG section of the blog (familiarity with WordPress is desirable), organising the PG workshop for the annual conference, relaying the issues of PG members to the committee, attending the annual WIGS committee meeting and conference, and reviewing the submissions for the book proposal prize and the PG essay prize. The term of office for PG Representative is usually three years.

Eligibility: Normally you will have been a member of WIGS for at least one year, and you should be familiar with the work of the association.

Any questions about the role should be sent to the current PG Representative, Cyd Sturgess ([log in to unmask]). Please also submit expressions of interest to Cyd Sturgess via email by 18 June 2017.

IT Officer
The WIGS committee is looking for a new IT officer to join them as soon as possible. The role consists of maintaining the Wordpress blog as well as the WIGS website with its membership list and archived material. Additionally, the website (http://www.wigs.ac.uk/) requires modernisation both for display and ease of access (barrier-free access). The incoming IT officer should be comfortable with working in XHTML/CSS and CMS/FTP.

Eligibility: Normally you will have been a member of WIGS for at least one year, and you should be familiar with the work of the association.

People interested in the role can contact the interim IT officer Birgit Mikus ([log in to unmask]) with any questions. Please also submit expressions of interest to Birgit Mikus via email by 18 June 2017.
