Colleagues will be saddened to learn of the death of Professor Peter Skrine. Peter was a long-standing member of Manchester University's German Department (1962 - 1989) before his appointment as Professor of German at Bristol University in 1989. During his tenure at Bristol he lectured on German literature from the Reformation and Baroque period to the early 20th century, and his wide-ranging interests were reflected in publications including  (with Lilian Furst) Naturalism (1971), The Baroque: Literature and Culture in 17th-century Europe (1978), Hauptmann, Wedekind and Schnitzler (1989), and (with Eda Sagarra) Blackwell’s Companion to German Literature (1997).

A funeral service for Peter will take place at  2.30pm on Monday 19 June at the Parish Church in Long Ashton, and former colleagues are very welcome to attend. This service follows a  family-only cremation service in the morning.

Family flowers only please, but donations to the Alzheimers Society or to the National Deaf Children's Society would be welcome.
