When I am looking for tutors I like them to have a teaching qual but also find it beneficial to have a TESOL qualification such as the Trinity one. There is a difference (although it is narrowing) between teaching EFL and ESOL and sometimes I find EFL only tutors find it harder to adjust to the flexibility involved with ESOL as they are more used to following a book. That's not to say they can't of course but it's just something I've noticed.

There is more of a "social worker" element to ESOL as well that not everyone likes to get involved with!

Hope that helps.

Subject: DTLLS(ESOL) and equivalents

Hello everyone

One of the teachers who volunteers in the organisation where I

coordinate the English classes is extremely keen to progress into

paid ESOL work. She has already gained the CELTA qualification

and now wishes to study further to improve her prospects of

gaining paid ESOL work. A few years ago I completed the DTLLS

(ESOL) qualification and this was very relevant to my progression

in ESOL. My understanding is that this specific qualification is no

longer available, has this been replaced with another qualification

aimed at ESOL teachers ?

Regards

Dominic
