MedSoc Early Career Event

Tuesday 12th September, afternoon

York University

The BSA Medical Sociology group is pleased to announce an event for PhD students and post-doctoral researchers working in medical sociology, health studies, disability studies and social policy. This year we have talks focusing on success with grants/fellowships, maintaining a strong publishing profile and varied avenues for impact. We are also hoping to create a space that allows for debate between disciplines.

This is a stand-alone event, delegates do not have to register for the full Medsoc conference.

The event will include presentations on:

• Publishing – with Kayleigh Garthwaite, author of ‘Hunger Pains: life inside foodbank Britain’.

• Grant applications – with Kylie Baldwin, successful applicant for the Mildred Blaxter Fellowship - Foundation for the Sociology of Health and Illness.

• Dissemination and academic activism – with Oli Williams, co-founder of the Act With Love art collective.

• What ECRs need to know about REF.

In addition to a roundtable discussion on post-doctoral careers.

Dr Kehinde Andrews will provide a keynote that offers important reflections on race, contemporary academia and sociology.

Cost includes pre-conference event, lunch and refreshments.
