Dear Group

for those with GIS, this is a fairly comprehensive starting point.

Nicola, although i think we all appreciate your efforts, The WALL is an industry resource and NOT a public information system. I doubt any "Jo or Jane Public" has heard of it let alone know how to access it.
Come on Environment Agency, remember your core purpose and step up to the plate!

Dear All

Just to let you know CL:AIRE has asked the EA whether the WALL (water and land library) may be able to help as it is a free resource for all.

Kind regards

Nicola

Hi,

It is a shame there is there no environmental Wikipedia who could /
would host such a service using the publicly available data sets?

I endorse David’s comments.
This was an almost unique service that functioned well and served both
professionals and the public very well.
Some of the material on the You Gov site would never have got past the
original Ladybird book publishers – no good for the public or
professionals.
More profit for the likes of Landmark no doubt.

Mike

Richard – I simply refer you back to my last post.   The “What’s in MY
Backyard” is for the benefit of the public, not for the convenience of
the consultant.
As Paul has reaffirmed public access to this important information is a
central tenant of a functioning democracy! To hide it is an affront
that denudes public trust!

Dear Group,
This will be a real shame to lose… Let’s hope that the open.gov website
sees some improvements as it is developed further.
As to why it’s ending - I gather down the grapevine that the software /
system used to run WIMBY is pretty antiquated. While the best thing
would be to regenerate it, the time/cost implications of doing so have
been weighed up as  being too high (although I’m sure most of you would
disagree).
We would be able to get the information directly from information
requests made to the EA instead – but certainly it would be
significantly slower and less convenient than by doing it ourselves.

Does anyone here have any knowledge as to why this is happening?
