Surrey Heritage is delighted to announce that it has been awarded a Heritage Lottery Fund grant of almost £100,000 for a project to commemorate Surrey’s role in the fight for women’s right to vote! The project, called ‘The March of the Women: Surrey’s Road to the Vote’ will culminate next year to mark the centenary of the 1918 Act of Parliament which gave the vote to women over the age of 30. Surrey was home to many notable activists and organisations on both sides of the suffrage debate and we will be working with museums, schools and community partners, to explore and chronicle the contributions of local people.
