Dear list members,

Please see below details of a project archivist position based at the National Co-operative Archive, Manchester.

Project Archivist: Working Together: Recording and preserving the heritage of the workers’ co-operative movement (Heritage Lottery Funded Project)

Fixed term for 1 year

Salary £22,572

The rapid upsurge of interest in the idea of working co-operatively in the 1970s-1990s led to a blossoming of a
‘new wave’ of co-operative businesses. These workers’ co-operatives played a significant role in their local
communities but also had national significance. They aimed to create jobs where people were important, with
an emphasis on sharing work, ownership, profits, responsibilities and decisions.

The project seeks to ensure that the heritage of this significant social movement is preserved and made
widely accessible by:

· Identifying and making accessible for the first time records from workers’ co-operatives currently privately

held.

· Encouraging those holding workers’ co-operative heritage to deposit the materials in local record offices or

the National Co-operative Archive.

· Digitising selected key resources and make them available online on a website maintained by the

Co-operative Heritage Trust.

· Undertaking oral history interviews with key figures from that period.

· Developing a series of case studies and learning resources and adding them to the website.

· Producing exhibition panels

Closing date: Monday 12 July, 12 noon

Interviews to take place week commencing 24 July
