Dear Arch-Metals list members,

As a result of a recent discovery (a unique Chalcolithic lead artifact), an
interesting debate emerged regarding the role of metal at the dawn of
metallurgy in the southern Levant (and beyond).

The relevant publications are in the "debate" section of the current issue
of Antiquity:

. Ben-Yosef, E., Shamir, O., Levy, J., 2017. On early metallurgy and
textile-production technologies in the southern Levant: a response to
Langgut et al. (2016) <https://www.academia.edu/33343128/> , Antiquity 91
(357): 765-776. [https://www.academia.edu/33343128/]

. Langgut, D., Yahalom-Mack, N., Lev-Yadun, S., Kremer, E., Ullman,
M., Davidovich, U., 2017. On Chalcolithic maceheads and spinning implements,
Antiquity 91 (357): 777-782.

. Ben-Yosef, E., Shamir, O., Levy, J., 2017. If it looks like a duck:
final comment on early metallurgy and textile-production technologies in the
southern Levant <https://www.academia.edu/33343134/> , Antiquity 91 (357):
783. [https://www.academia.edu/33343134/]

I hope you will find it of interest (I believe it opens the ground for
further discussion, in which many of the list members can contribute).

Best wishes,

Erez
