Steering Group member, British Conference of Undergraduate Research ========================= FIXED-TERM TEACHING FELLOW IN SPANISH LINGUISTICS NEWCASTLE UNIVERSITY, UK Vacancy Ref: B72002A Closing Date: 4 June 2017 Salary: £29,301 - £38,183 per annum (Grade F) Description of Duties: The School of Modern Languages wishes to appoint a fixed-term Teaching Fellow in Spanish Linguistics to replace Professor Ian Mackenzie who has been awarded a Leverhulme Trust Research Fellowship for 12 months from September 2017. The successful candidate will be expected to deliver two existing modules (World Spanish and Spanish & Romance Word Analysis), and to contribute to the first-year Introduction to Linguistics module. They will also take on undergraduate-related administrative roles, and may be required to contribute to language teaching. Experience & qualifications: Applicants must hold a first degree in a subject area relevant to the post, and hold or have nearly completed a PhD in a relevant subject area. Applicants must also have experience of undergraduate teaching in Spanish Studies. Skills & qualities: Applicants must have native or near-native fluency in both Spanish and English. They must have the qualities required to provide excellent teaching to undergraduates and postgraduates. About us: The School of Modern Languages has 48 members of permanent academic staff teaching and researching in the fields of: East Asian Studies; French; German; Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies; and Translating and Interpreting Studies. It is home to over 500 undergraduate, and 150 postgraduate students. In the recent Research Excellence Framework, our research in Modern Languages and Linguistics (UoA 28) ranked us 16th in the UK for GPA, and 6th for Research Power. Our research strengths underpin our undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes. At undergraduate level we offer a variety of programmes, including the BA in Modern Languages (which allows students to combine up to 3 languages), the BA in Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies, and a BA in Modern Languages, Translation and Interpreting.
