Just tested MATE: requires 2.4 Gb XFCE: 129 Mb Gnome-control-center: 157 Mb I think that it doesn’t harm if we distribute a VM with XFCE and if the user wants can get whatever she likes. It is supported by Ubuntu https://ubuntu-mate.org/ I really wouldn’t suggest GNOME 3. The byoby terminal looks friendlier than xterm but I still see no menu and cannot copy-paste (except with middle-click). Installing Ubuntu-gnome-desktop is a .5GB download... I’m not sure about this, neither is Ben. Nikos, Casper, any ideas? I guess this is allright because it allows to distribute a small appliance. Do you have suggestion of which packages we may (suggest to) install to make the machine a little bit more user friendly? I mean using xterm in Gnome3 is a clash of cultures… Edo -- Edoardo Pasca, PhD Visual Analytics and Imaging Systems Group Scientific Computing Department, STFC Rutherford Appleton Laboratoty 0044 (0)1235 44 5660 :wq
