The Excellence Cluster 'The Hamburg Centre for Ultrafast Imaging' at Hamburg announces a PhD position in theoretical physics.

The research project focuses on the theoretical simulation of disordered matter, such as glasses and liquids, which form metastable states exhibiting local symmetries. The hidden local order within disorder is responsible
for the undercooling of liquids and the existence of the glassy state being accompanied by spatiotemporal fluctuations. The project aims at exploring the formation of such structures, the unraveling of the corresponding working
principles including possible universal behaviour. X-ray scattering is the observational tool to analyze these materials and shall be explored from the theory side. A close interaction with corresponding experiments performed at DESY/Hamburg is envisaged.

The Hamburg Centre for Ultrafast Imaging promotes strongly interdisciplinary research (for further information see http://www.cui.uni-hamburg.de/en/). The centre offers a stimulating and exciting atmosphere in an international environment and unique opportunities for PhD students through its graduate school: a rich guest programme, excellent education, collaboration on forefront research topics and organisation of scientific events are offered.

We are looking for strongly motivated and highly skilled students who share the excitement of doing theoretical research with a close link to corresponding experiments.

To apply, please send a CV (including the names of 2 potential references) with a cover letter to [log in to unmask], see also http://photon.physnet.uni-hamburg.de/de/ilp/schmelcher/

Salaries are paid according to the German standards TVoeD EG 13/2 (PhD).
Recruitment will continue until the position is filled.
