medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

A student of mine has come across an image in an early C16 Welsh poem of playing dice with Death. I had always assumed the 'dicing with death' idea was relatively recent - has anyone come across other medieval examples? I do know the Swedish wall painting of Death playing chess but again I'd be interested in other examples of that theme.

Best wishes

Maddy
