This may mean that you should consider very carefully how you use the NAS for storage, I'm wondering if it wise to rely on mixed  file system searching in this scenario.

You might want to consider a different approach, than mounting shared folders on different OS based machines?

e.g
Cloud Station for Synology NAS

Or you may need a more robust client/server netwrok to actually give you the reliability and data management you need.
