italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies

U could do a lot worse than the very Italian Topolino and Paperino, much frowned upon and therefore excellent. Then try something in translation – we used the Italian versions of Goosebumps (“Piccoli Brividi”) which was taxing enough but to start off get them to read the English version and then the Italian, or French or whatever.

Kid’s books rarely manage to balance content and form and rarely take into account the fact that reading skills will boom in a monolingual educational context (=school). Beatrix and Harry Potter, tho not related genetically, are both great for the age range you describe but only for “passive reading” – ie as listeners.

italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies

Hello,

I'm trying to find some books for children (ages 8-10 yrs) in Italian to help develop their vocabulary. Their research interests are pretty broad but I've been informed that fiction books and/or history novels/ novellas would be preferred. We've already considered C.S. Lewis and Harry Potter translations, but they may be a bit too advanced (given their level of Italian) at this stage.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
