Unfortunately Tania, we also have this problem. I had a student complain 2 years ago that we didn't announce the correct time. It happened to be myself starting that room (due to invigilator circumstances), so had to be investigated and check with all other invigilation staff.

Subject: Question

Dear all,

This might seem like a weird question but I seem to have this every year so thought I would ask for some advice.

What do you do when you get a complaint from a student about the exam that you know isn't true? For example, for the Maths paper last week a student has just said her paper was taken away 15 minutes before the end time. I know this isn't true as the invigilators involved are all very experienced and the other students have said they had their full time. I am guessing this happens because they panic that they didn't finish and think I can do something about it.

This is just one example, I have had quite a few strange ones over the years. I normally just say I'll investigate and if there is an issue apply for special consideration etc.

Does anyone else have this or is it just me who has fibbing students?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Tania
