I am writing with an opportunity for 14-25 year olds to enrol as participants on one of our current projects, Children in Movement, which is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. I hope that you will agree this is a fantastic opportunity for young people to gain training in either portrait photography or interviewing for oral histories and to be involved in archiving and mapping the Heritage of child migration to Birmingham. Two fantastic opportunities for young people unearthing Birmingham’s hidden Stories of Migration

 

Call out for Interviewers

An opportunity to learn how to conduct and record your own interviews for 'Children in Movement' - a major local heritage project that will unearth some of the fascinating but hidden stories of migration that lie behind Birmingham's rich, multi-cultural community.

Using specialist oral history recording equipment and techniques, you'll be given full training and support to participate in creating a comprehensive archive of stories of those who have migrated to Birmingham as children/young people over the last 80 years from all corners of the world. 

You will collaborate with other young people working as photographers, and be supported throughout by our friendly project team, generating a fascinating collection of memories that will help develop understanding and create dialogue between communities.

At the end of the project you will have your work publicly exhibited at The GAP as part of the National 2018 Refugee Week celebrations, and also published in print a beautiful new hardback book that will be available in all libraries around the city. And if that’s not enough, all the project materials generated by participants will be archived for posterity by the Library of Birmingham!

Leading photography training providers, Some Cities, will show you how to take portraits of people who have migrated to Birmingham as children/young people over the last 80 years from all over the world, photographs that will help to tell their stories, develop understanding and create dialogue between communities. 

You will collaborate with other young people working as interviewers, and be supported throughout by our friendly project team.

At the end of the project you will have your work publicly exhibited at The GAP as part of the National 2018 Refugee Week celebrations, and also published in print a beautiful new hardback book that will be available in all libraries around the city.
